From Boise with Love

No, it is not the title of the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Its the bottom line of the gifts from our friends in Boise when we moved to Singapore. One of the first things that we did when we arrived in Singapore was to pose with all the gifts that we have.

From Boise with Love

My wife clad in gifts from head to toe. A touch of Africa for me, a reminder of the multi-ethnic nature of our mosque in Boise

Some of the gifts

A picture of a hill that shows the color of Idaho, “so that you won’t forget Idaho”, said Kevin who gave the picture on behalf of my friends at the IDL where I work. He mentioned the guy who took the picture and also the location of the mountain, but I forgot where it is.

Books

One book for Hanif and one book for me.

From Boise with Love

And the most precious bits for us are the inscriptions on the back of the picture, and also on the lining of the headscarf.

From Boise with Love

Yes, Cheryl had sewn the words on the linings of the headscarf that say: From Boise with Love. A friend at our mosque told us that somebody (which must be Cheryl) called the mosque to ask where she can buy a headscarf for her friend that is moving out of town. She then bought the headscarf and took care to sew the words along the side of the headscarf.

Thank you my friends!

If Moses had gotten the Ten Commandments on a floppy disk, it would never have made it to today. (Dag Spicer, curator of the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley, The NYTimes Circuit, 26-Mar-2009)

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
George Bernard Shaw, Maxims for Revolutionists

“The wrath of God is the only way I can describe it. I’m used to seeing roofs off houses, houses blown over. These houses were down to their foundations, stripped clean.” said Governor Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, after surveying tornado damage there.

James Madison said, “If there be a principle that ought not to be questioned within the United States, it is that every man has a right to abolish an old government and establish a new one.” In Indonesia, …, well no comment.
